Construction profit margin formula
Profit = Revenue − Total job cost. Profit margin is profit divided by revenue. Markup is profit divided by cost, so markup and margin are not interchangeable.
Include materials, labor, subcontractors, permits, rentals, delivery, fuel, and other job-specific expenses. Missing even small costs makes the calculated margin look healthier than the job really is.
